As a packaging designer, I’ve always loved browsing supermarkets whilst on holiday and soaking in the foreign designs.
But here in Porto, the supermarket isn’t king. You buy your meat from the Talho and your veggies from the Frutaria. So, it shouldn’t have been a surprise to see queues along busy roads during cherry season, where farmers sell huge quantities of cherries straight from their van.
What would you do with 6kg of cherries? Make cherry wine for your upcoming wedding, of course — document the whole process, design the label, and illustrate yourself and your husband as cherry characters.
Luckily, the wine itself turned out great. It went down a treat at the wedding and ended up a respectable 17.8% ABV.
And to top it off, Andy got our cherry characters tattooed on his arm on our honeymoon.
